Spring City Borough is conducting a search to fill the position of Chief of Police.
Spring City Borough is located in the northeastern part of Chester County, approximately 35 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
The Borough is primarily residential with professional and service businesses providing most of the commerce.
The Borough has an area of approximately 1 square mile and a population of approximately 3,323.
The Spring City Borough Police Department is comprised of two full time and eight part time sworn officers and one civilian employee.
The annual operating budget for the Department is approximately $496,000.
Spring City operates under the conventional Borough form of government with the Chief of Police reporting to the Mayor.
The Chief of Police is a non-civil service position.
The Chief of Police is the principal administrative officer of the Police Department and is responsible for supervising all personnel, functions and operations.
The position is for a working chief, who must also fill in as a patrol officer and be able to work swing shifts.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for the Position: Extensive academic background in the management field, with extensive knowledge regarding law enforcement, agency management, budgets, grant preparation, planning, hiring, coordinating policy development, information technology and leadership.
Command level municipal police experience a plus.
Preferred Educational Requirements Include: -Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice Administration or related field; -Northwestern School of Staff and Command or equivalent, -Additional college level coursework in social science, public administration, criminal justice or a related area; -At least ten years of police experience which includes supervisory experience; -Pennsylvania Act 120 (53 Pa. C.S.A.
<2161) certification or eligibility for certification.
A comprehensive medical examination, psychological examination and extensive background investigation will be required prior to appointment.
Salary for 2018 is set at $65,000.00 and includes a competitive benefits package.
